Singapore is the southmost terminal of the Malaysian railway system. The country's only international railway line is operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), which is the main rail operator in Peninsular Malaysia.
The track commences from the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station in southern Singapore, proceeds north through Bukit Timah and crosses the 1.2 km causeway to Johor Bahru on the Malay Peninsula, where it then runs along the peninsular's west coast through Kuala Lumpur and onwards to Thailand and beyond...

There are two passenger train services available:
For those of you who want to travel in style and experience the splendorous charm of bygone colonial days in Southeast Asia, The Eastern & Oriental Express is quite recommended. The luxurious train runs slowly between Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, winding its way along the picturesque track that passes through lush rainforests, steep mountains and traditional villages.
The full route, from Singapore's Tanjong Pagar Railway Station to Bangkok's Hua Lamphong takes three days and two nights and, as from 2007, the train also travels beyond Bangkok to destinations like Chiang Mai (north Thailand) and Vientiane, the capital city of Laos.
As expected, the fares are far from being low but the experience is unmatched.

For the more 'down to earth' travellers (or, more precisely, for those who have a tighter budget), there is a much cheaper option for train-travelling across the Malay Peninsula : Malysia's KTMB operates comfortable and reliable rail services between Malaysia and Singapore. There are different classes, deals and packages available, so you'll better browse their website and see what suits you best.
Generally speaking, travelling by train is likely to be cheaper than bus. The express trains are somewhat more expensive but much faster.
