Ferry and Sea travel to Malaysia

Popular Tioman Island (Pulau Tioman) is a small, densely forested island, surrounded by crystal clear turquoise water and some fabolous coral reefs.

Located 32 km off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, in the state of Pahang, this beautiful island got its share of international fame in the 1970s, when the TIME magazine selected it as one of the world's most beautiful islands.

Tioman is no longer connected to Singapore by a direct ferry (except on school holidays).  You need to travel first to Mersing town, on the East Coast of Johor state, Malaysia, from where you can catch the ferry (The ferry terminal and the main bus terminal of Mersing are in the same building, which means that you won't have to waste too much time running around...).

There are a number of ferry operators (the most famos of which is Bluewater express) and three types of ferry. The largest, slowest (approx 2 hours) ferry is the most economical; the smaller and faster catamaran costs more; the smallest and fastest (approx 1 hour) outboard speedboats make the most expensive option.

Some ferries also depart from Tanjung Gemuk, to the north of Mersing.

During the monsoon season (late October to mid/late February) the ferries run much less frequently and exceptionally bad conditions may shut them down completely for several days at a time.

Sebana Cove resort on the southeast coast of Johor state, Malaysia, just 25 kms. away from the east coast resort of Desaru is, probably, one of the easiest places to visit, when you want to get away from it all but don't want to spend too much time on the road.  The lovely resort offers some stunnig tropical sceneries, sports and recreational facilities, excellent restaurants, a marina, 18-hole golf course and a lot more... Indo Falcon Shipping operates a regular ferry service between Singapore's Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and the resort.  Return ticket for the 45 minutes ride costs SG$ 25 for an adult and SG$ 18 for a child, and you can get more details (including the scheduele) through their website: www.indofalcon.com.sg

To get to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal : catch SBS bus No. 35 from Bedok Bus Interchange (adjacent to Bedok MRT station).
