This excellent restaurant is famous for its delicious Kurobuta pork dishes... particularly for its Tonkatsu and Shabu Shabu. Kurobuta is the Japanese name for the black Berkshire pig, and the meat of this rather rare pig is the "Wagyu of pork"... with relatively low and evenly spread fat.
Tonkatsu is a type of Japanese schnitzel that consists of a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet. Once the cutlet is ready, it is sliced to bite sized pieces and served with cabbage salad and other side dishes. Tonkatsu is most commonly eaten with a type of thick Japanese Worcestershire sauce called Tonkatsu Sauce.
Shabu-shabu is the Japanese version of hot pot (steamboat), with thinly sliced meat and vegetables, served with dipping sauces.
Using only top-notch ingredients, the chefs of Tom Ton ensure that the food here is really high-end... ambience and environs are pretty tranquil and comfortable so, all in all, it makes an enjoyable evening out...
The prices are quite reasonable for this quality of food (and ingredients) : around SG$ 25 - 40
