The best Indian restaurants and eateries in Singapore

Banana Leaf Apollo has long become one of Little India's culinary icons.  Located on Race Course Road, the restaurant is famous for serving most of its dishes on banana-leafs (although quite a few restaurants around do the same nowadays), a traditional Indian serving style that is meant to add flavor and keep the food's juiciness... The menu features a decent choice of both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes from North and South India.

Komala Vilas has been around for yonks and is still as good and popular as ever. Occupying a historic shophouse along Little India's Serangoon Road, this humble eatery serves a small choice of delicious vegetarian South Indian favorites...

Muthu's has been serving some of the best 'Fish Head Curry' in Singapore for the last forty years... Located on Race Course Road, it also has a decent selection of scrumptious north and south Indian dishes, to suit every pallete.

Shahi Maharani restaurant is housed in Raffles City and serves the best of the north Indian cuisine in a relaxing and elegant environment.  Other than an extensive selection of lovely dishes, there is a live Indian band that enhances the dining experience.

Ras - The essence of India is a lovely riverfront restaurant in Clarke Quay that serves a decent choice of dishes from different cuisines across the Indian sub-continent, in a pleasant setting.

Tandoor North Indian in Holiday Inn Park View Hotel, near Orchard Road, has become one of Singapore's best loved Indian restaurant after serving constantly good food for more than 25 years, and although there are no 'surprises' on the menu, the choice is wide and the food is simply great.

Mustard is a small and cozy restaurant on Racecourse Road, specializing in Bengali cuisine from the state of Bengal in northeast India, where seafood and rice-based dishes set the tone. The menu also boasts a reasonable range of familiar south and north Indian dishes that are just as good.

Bombay woodlands restaurant is located in Tanglin Shopping Centre, near the end of Orchard Road, and serves lovely vegetarian food from the states of south India, in a pleasant and contemporary ambience... As expected from a south Indian eating place, the food is spicy and flavorful, but the menu is diversified enough to suit everyone's taste.

Two delicious tips...

1. a nice article about Temasek Indian Rojak, a humble eatery in Little India's Tekka Centre that serves some truly nice Rojak (by ieatishootipost)

2. The Muthu's Flavors makes a great choice for those of you who want to enjoy some fabulous Indian cuisine in a chic and contemporary setting, in trendy Dempsey Hill.... (By Ladyironchef)

Ananda Bhavan Restaurant claims to be Singapore's oldest existing Indian restaurant, and whether this is true or not, it has been around for more than seventy years and is still as good as ever, with a wide variety of dishes from all over the subcontinent, and an equally good choice of scrumptious Indian breads.

Delhi Restaurant has two outlets in Little India, where it serves all those delicious North Indian favorites for which the restaurant is so well known.  There is nothing too awe-inspiring about the décor here (although both outlets are reasonably pleasant), but the food is hands down delicious and that is what matters...
