Rakuzen is possibly one of the best Japanese restaurants in Singapore, especially when considering the value you get for your money... It may be lacking some of the ultra-sophistication that is common to all those Über-swanky restaurants, but it certainly serves fabulous Japanese fare in a sleek environment and at a sensible price.
Beautifully decked out in a modern Japanese style, with plenty of wood paneling, the relatively large dining area is cleverly partitioned, so there are quite a few "cozy corners" for those who are looking for a bit of privacy... Service is notably good and polite, and the significant presence of Japanese clients is a good sign for the quality and authenticity of the food...
Rakuzen is known for its extremely fresh and succulent seafood (live fish is flown in twice a week), for its outstandingly delicious Japanese rice (sourced from a special farm in Japan and milled in-house) and for its uncompromisingly fresh vegetables... The results speak for themselves...
The fairly extensive menu features a decent choice of value-for-money set options... Sashimi and other seafood dishes are dominating the scene, but meat and vegetarian dishes are definitely not falling behind, so everyone can find something to suit his taste buds, and there is a free flow of green tea, which is quite refreshing.
Prices are fairly reasonable for this type of a restaurant: around SG$ 30 - 60 for a full meal
