Princess Terrace Café is one of Singapore's most favorite buffet-restaurants and one of the best places in the city to try the rich and palatable cuisine of Penang.
The beautiful thing about this restaurant is that not only it specializes in one specific authentic cuisine (something which is not common for a hotel buffet-restaurant), it also does it very successfully... for the last almost 40 years.
The fairly spacious dinning hall is nicely decked out in a modern style, with plenty of light wood... there is nothing much in the way of romantic atmosphere here... just a pleasant place to have a lovely dinner.
And dinner (or lunch) is lovely indeed... dozens of Penang classics, prepared by Penang chefs... different types of Laksa (rich, spicy noodle soup with different ingredients), Satay, Popiah (rolled, thin crepe with different fillings), Hokkien Mee (Hokkien style Prawn Noodle), Fried Kway Teow (a popular Southeast Asian dish, consisting of flat rice noodles which are fried over very high heat with light and dark soy sauce, chilli, prawns, cockles, egg, bean sprouts and Chinese chives. Sometimes slices of Chinese sausage and fish cake are also added), Rojak (Indian-Singapore dish), Char Hu (Penang salad), Peppered pig stomach soup and what not...
Among the desserts, you can find favorites like Bubur cha cha (Yam and sweet potato cubes served in coconut milk and sago) and Cheng Tng (cool, sweet soup), alongside a variety of Nonya Kueh (cakes)...
Prices are not bad: buffet lunch or dinner is around SG$ 40 per person
