Peramakan started its way a few years ago, as a rather humble (and crammed) eatery on Joo Chiat Road.  After a successful beginning on Joo Chiat, the couple who owns the place decided to move to a bigger and more up-market outlet, near the waterfront of Keppel Island's marina...


The new restaurant in Keppel Club is more elegant (not too posh or glitzy though...), with polished wood parquet and modern clean lines... ambience is quite pleasant and service is good.


The relatively comprehensive menu presents a wide selection of authentic delicacies and it's really hard to choose what to go for... recommended dishes include Ayam Buah Keluak : a traditional and well-known dish of chicken and Buah Keluak (unique nuts, from a mangrove tree that grows in Malaysia and Indonesia), Beef Rending: a type of beef curry that slowly cooks in coconut milk and spices for several hours until almost all the liquid is gone, leaving the meat coated in the spicy condiments, Nonya pork ribs (braised with tacheo, plum sauce and spices), Sotong panggang (grilled squid served with medium hot spicy coconut sauce), Ikan panggang (grilled fillet of fish with sambal sauce)  and Ayam Kleo (grilled chicken, simmered in rich and spicy coconut gravy).


Desserts are very nice too, with lip-smackers like Apom (type of pancake) with either rich banana sauce or with nuts and Durian fruit... or Sago gula melaka (Sago in palm sugar)...


Prices are quite reasonable: Around SG$ 20 - 30 for a nice meal
