The year starts with the New Year's Eve celebrations (Fraternidade Universal). In Macau, people usually gather in places like Avenida da Praia Grande or outside The Lisboa to see midnight's spectacular display of fireworks over Nam Van Lake (fireworks are launched from the Macau Tower area, so the display can be seen from quite a few places).
Street shows and public events are held at Rotunda de Carlos Maia (Three Lamps), as well as in Sai Van Lake Square and in Taipa.
