Introduction to Macau's world of good food

Being an international crossroads, where East meets West, Macau developed a fairly rich and diverse culinary culture that combines different cuisines from all over the world.

The city is home to a large number of restaurants that offer a plethora of styles, tastes and aromas... From simple eateries that cook fabolous traditional dishes to world class establishments that host the jet set.

Since most of the city's residents live in small apartments, inviting family and friends over for dinner is not easy and, therefore, going out to a restaurant became a popular trend.

The cuisines of China (and the Cantonese cuisine in particular) are dominating Macau's culinary scene and that is no surprise, as most of Macau's residents are of Cantonese origin.  Alongside the Chinese cuisines, you will find many restaurants that specialize in Portuguese food, as well as in the various cuisines of the Far East and South Asia, such as Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and others...

Moreover, Macau has its own Macanese cuisine that features a mixture of Portuguese and Chinese culinary influences. This unique cuisine developed in more than 450 years of Portuguese presence and colonialism.
