House of Sundanese Food - Singapore River

As its name denotes, this small and popular restaurant-chain specializes in the Sundanese cuisine of West - Java...  While the Sundanese cuisine might be pretty similar to other cuisines across the Malay archipelago, it does maintain its own culinary distinction, mainly by using different spice mixes than those used in other cuisines.

They have two main outlets... one is on Singapore River's Boat Quay (which is much better - location wise) and the other one is in Suntec City.  Both restaurants are nicely decorated with rattan-backed chairs, vividly patterned sofa seats and traditional Indonesian handcrafts on the walls... ambience is fairly pleasant and unfussy, service is good, and the food is truly lovely...

Ikan Sunda Bakar (Sundanese grilled fish) is beautifully marinated and grilled, so the meat is still very succulent,  Ikan Nila Goreng (deep fried red-fish, with rich piquant sauce),  Ayam Panggang Sundan (marinated and barbecued chicken),  Rendang Daging Sunda (Sundanese style Beef Rendang -  beef curry that slowly cooks in coconut milk and spices for several hours, until almost all the liquid is gone, leaving the meat coated in the spicy condiments),  Soto Ayam (spicy soup of chicken, vermicelli and vegetables),  Sayur Lodeh (a stew of mixed vegetable in rich, spiced coconut gravy) and more...

Prices are quite reasonable: around SG$ 30 - 40 (the grilled fish and seafood dishes are slightly pricy, without them the bill should even be lower...)
