Tai Yuen Street and Spring Garden Lane

Tai Yuen Street and Spring Garden Lane

Old streets, packed with trendy shopping

Tai Yuen Street and Spring Garden Lane are found on the older, southern part of Wanchai. Just a heartbeat from the MTR station.  This is the area where Wanchai started to develop from, back in the 1840s, and other than historic buildings and a bit of "old Hong Kong ambience", the narrow streets are crammed with huckster stalls and small shops that sell everything from Chinese herbal medicine to dried seafood and from garments to toys...

Spring Garden Lane, as well as the section of Johnston Road next to it, boast some good surplus shops that sell export surpluses at fairly competitive prices... It also connects to local wet and dry markets, and so offers a multicultural experience, right in the heart of Wanchai.

To get there: The entrance to Tai Yuen Street is from the corner of Johnston Road, across the road from Exit A-3 of MTR-Wanchai (The tramway drops you right near the entrance to the small market-street).
