The world's only full-sized replica of Noah's Ark
If biblical stories are your thing, or you want your young ones to know more about the book of the books and its heroes, the recently opened Noah's Ark is certainly a place worth visiting (and quite frankly, it's worth a visit even if you have nothing to do with religion).
Located on tiny Ma Wan Island, right under the mighty Lantau Link Bridge, this themed park boasts what is currently the world's only full-sized replica of Noah's Ark, alongside life-size sculptures of almost 70 pairs of different animals... Otherwise, there are quite a few activities for the small ones... The Ark Expo is where you can see a multi-media presentation, describing the big flood and Noah's journey, and learn about the ark through touch-screens and interactive devices... Noah's adventureland is where you can enjoy many different rope course challenges (God knows what does that have to do with the story of the ark... but quite honestly, who cares, so long as it's fun...), then there are the Treasure House and the Ark Life Education House with plenty of educational activities about mankind, nature and what not...
The park was built by Chinese evangelical billionaires, who say they hope it will promote values of peace, harmony and nature loving... It's open daily from 10am to 6 pm (Closed every first and third Wednesday of the month except public holidays, and stay open until 8pm on summer Sundays) and entrance fees are roughly around HK$ 100 for an adult and HK$ 85 for kids and elderly (there are all sorts of "packages" to choose from...)
Tickets should be purchased in advance: Either online, or through one of the authorized agents (see the list in their website), and although there is a small number of tickets available on site, it's not really advisable to count on it...
Getting to the park is not too difficult: Board the ferry at Central Pier No.2 (next to Star ferry Pier at Central / Central bus terminus ) and it will take you straight to Park Island Ferry Pier, which is just a short walk from the park.
