Beautiful nature walks and plenty of interesting activities
Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) is off the tourist's beaten track, but if you have enough time in Hong Kong and you like nature walks, it is a place well worth visiting.
Occupying almost 150 hectares of wooded slopes and ridges on the northern foothills of Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong's highest mountain, the farm was established in the 1950s by the famous Kaddorie brothers to provide agricultural aid to farmers in need of support to help them lead independent lives.
Nowadays, however, the farm focuses on educational programs that are aimed at promoting the conservation of biodiversity in Hong Kong and South China...
There are some lovely nature walks here that pass next to a mountain creek with cascades and waterfalls... Beautiful picnic areas, Orchid greenhouse, Aviary and themed gardens where you can familiarize yourself with indigenous plants, animals and insects...
Those with strong lungs should climb all the way to the Kadoorie Brothers' Memorial Pavilion and the peak of Kwun Yum Shan for unbeatable views (Those who are not that fit will have to wait for the free shuttle to take them to the farm's upper parts)
KFBG is open from 9:30am-5pm (No entry after 4 pm).
To get here: Take KMB bus No. 64K from either Tai Po Market (the bus terminus, next to the KCR railway station) or from Yuen Long (The bus stop is on Long Yat Road - Just outside the KCR railway station), or from Kam Sheung Road Railway Station.
(The same bus travels via Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree, so you can combine it with the day-trip to the farm)
