Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens

The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens are located near the corner of Garden Road and Upper Albert Road, just a two minutes walk from the lower terminus of the Peak Tram, but can also be entered from Glenealy (if coming from Lan Kwai Fong or Caine Road).

Originally opened in 1871, it is one of the world's oldest existing zoos, and while neither the zoo, nor the botanical gardens are as impressive as you would expect from an international city like Hong Kong, it is still well worth visiting, especially the botanical area, where you can explore more than a thousand unique species, native to this part of the world, as well as to Southeast Asia...

In the zoo, there are quite a few birds, reptiles and mammals, including: Orangutans, Golden Lion Tamarin, Burmese Python, Giant Asian Pond Turtle and Red-crowned Crane, among others...

The gardens are open daily: The Fountain Terrace Garden open from 6 am to 10 pm and the other parts of the gardens (zoo and thematic gardens) close by 7 pm.

Admission is free.

You should use the tunnel (within the gardens) to walk under Albany Road to the other side of the Gardens, where the zoo is, and exit the gardens through the path that goes down to Glenealy
