Occupying a total area of about 50 k², the park stretches over two areas across the Eastern and Northeastern New Territories, and mostly comprises of existing country parks, where unique geological formation dominate the landscape...

The park's southern section covers parts of the Sai Kung Peninsula, as well as some islands across Port Shelter Bay, and is characterized by volcanic rocks - Particularly the hexagonal volcanic rock columns of Sai Kung, which form the main attraction of this side of the park...

It is divided to four " Geo-Areas" that include Sharp Island (a short kai-to boat ride from Sai Kung Town) and High Island area (Within Sai Kung East Country Park, on the eastern side of High Island Reservoir), as well as the Ninepin Group and the Ung Kong Group, on the southern side of the bay.

The park's northern section stretches across Plover Cove Country Park and the relatively "remote" islands of Tung Ping Chau and Bluff Head, and is mostly dominated by sedimentary rocks, including some of the oldest rocks around this part of China.

For more information about the park and its main points-of-interest, visit the website of Hong Kong Geopark (There are very detailed descriptions there, including maps and "getting there instructions" to each of the points...)
