Hong Kong Lao Shang Hai Restaurant

The Hong Kong Card allows you to splurge in the city's best restaurants without having to dig too deep in your pockets...

For authentic, delicious Shanghainese food, hardly anyone can beat good old Hong Kong Lao Shang Hai... They have been around for who knows how many years and are still as good and popular as ever...

As in many Chinese restaurants, sophisticated décor and romantic atmosphere are not exactly at the top of the priorities list, but the interior design is certainly pleasing enough, with plenty of light timber, and the much expected high-back chairs, and the food is fabulous, which is the main thing...

Hairy crabs are the main draw (in season), alongside a wide range of other Shanghainese specialties, from dumplings (crabmeat and chopped pork are particularly recommended) and Fried Green Onion Cake  to  Stuffed Pigeon, Salted egg prawns, Drunken Chicken and what not...

Prices are quite fair: HK$ 150 - 200 per person

Open daily, from 11am to 11pm

B1, Basement, Century Hong Kong Hotel, 238 Jaffe Road, Wanchai (Just a short stroll from MTR Wanchai, Exit A1) Phone: 2827 9339
