Hop on - Hop off bus

Hop-on, Hop-off buses and transport to tourist attractions

Some of Singapore tourist attractions (especially those which are away from the centre) are serviced by designated bus routes. Traveling with those designated buses is slightly more expensive than the usual public transport means, but the difference in price is negligible compared to the time and hassle they can save you. Especially if you are short of time and don't want to combine the chosen tourist-attraction with other interesting places around the same area...

Designated bus routes are operated by Bus Hub and travel to Singapore Zoo and The Night Safari, as well as to Jurong Bird Park.

Like any city that respects itself, Singapore has Hop-on, Hop-off double-decker open-top buses that travel in a loop through the city's major tourist attractions.

HiPPOtours, one of Singapore's most significant tour operators, is the company behind these Hop-on, Hop-off buses.  Their buses run on five different routes that basically cover most of Singapore's tourist attractions (at least the better known ones...) and, as expected, they offer "special passes" that allow you to hop on and off those buses as much as you want (for the period covered by the pass...)

At the time of writing, the price for the full-day Singapore Sightseeing Pass stands on SG$ 33 for an adult and SG$ 17 for a child (And you can enjoy the 2nd day for free).

Their more comprehensive two-days Singapore Pass costs SG$ 63 for an adult and SG$ 33 a child and gives you access to the company's other attractions, like the DUCKtours amphibious vehicle, Singapore River Cruise and more...

Singapore Airlines also operates its own air-conditioned Hop-on, Hop-off bus. Unlike the one of HiPPOtours, the SIA Hop-on doesn't have an open-top (neither is it double-decker) and its single route covers less places of interest... But it operates long hours (9am - 10pm daily) and passes through 23 stops across the city, the ethnic precincts and Sentosa Island, which means you are going to pass through most of the must-sees... It also costs less (SG$ 12 for an adult and SG$ 6 for a child / half of this if you arrived at the city with a Singapore Airlines flight and have the boarding pass, and nothing if you are on a Singapore Stopover...).

All in all, the HiPPOtours double-decker open-top bus seems to be a better way of seeing Singapore.

Singapore Trolley

If nostalgic clichés (and photos) are your thing, then you are probably going to like this retro-style sightseeing bus, which runs in circles between key attractions around the city, including Orchard Road, Clarke Quay, Singapore River, Suntec City, Marina, the Esplanade and so on...

It is basically just a wannabe of an early 20th century tram, but while it lacks some of the charm of the real thing, it makes up for it with an air condition (that seems to be far more practical in Singapore, than an open-windowed tram...)
