Visiting Singapore ?
Guided day trips are a very nice way to explore this unique and beautiful city...
Blue Ginger serves authentic Peranakan fare in a pleasant and somewhat refined environment.
Accommodated in a renovated shophouse, along vivaciously painted Tanjong Pagar Road, the relatively small double-storied restaurant boasts a fairly nice interior décor, with classy Peranakan furniture and motifs... Ambience is pleasant and relaxed and service is quite good...
The food here is thumbs up (although more expensive than in a Katong eatery...) Their Beef Rendang is among the best in Singapore (It's a type of beef curry that slowly cooks in coconut milk and spices for several hours, until almost all the liquid is gone, leaving the meat coated in the spicy condiments). Other recommended dishes include Ngoh Heong (crispy and succulent "five spice" meat or chicken roll, wrapped in thin beancurd skin), spicy Assam fish, Chicken with lime leaves and coconut milk, Otak Otak (a very popular fish cake) and Sotong curry (Squid in curry sauce).
Prices are slightly more expensive than an average Peranakan restaurant (like the ones in Katong and Geylang) but the food is good and the restaurant's position, in Tanjong Pagar, also explains the difference in price... Expect to pay around SG$ 40 for a-la-carte dinner.
